Amazon.com, Amazon Pay, and American Express are the only payment options that accept American Express cards. Amazon.com allows you to also purchase Amex gift certificates. Amex gift cards can’t be used with Amazon Pay as Amazon Pay doesn’t recognize gift cards.
Amazon Gift Cards Accepted by Amex
In addition to American Express cards, Amazon also accepts Amex (or American Express) gift cards as a valid form of payment.
Customers must follow these steps to be able to use their Amex cards on Amazon:
Register your Amex gift cards with the bank issuing such cards. Search for the phrase “American Express gift cards registration” and you will find it. Customers then need to confirm the card information, and to register the card, with your name and address. Customers are able to register their card online by going to the Homepage’s “Accounts Lists” dropdown menu. From there, select your account > Your payments and enter the card information.
Amex gift vouchers can be used by customers because they are designed to work like credit cards. This is similar to Visa gift cards or pre-paid Mastercard gift cards.

Amazon currently does not accept gift cards from outside that are not prepaid credit cards. Amazon currently does not accept Venmo or Google Pay, as well.

Does Amazon Pay Accept American Express?
Amazon Pay accepts American Express cards! Amazon Pay also allows registered Amex card holders to make purchases like they would a credit or debit card.
Amazon Pay Will Reject Which Payment Methods?
Amazon Pay is slightly more limited with its payment methods than Amazon.com. The following payment options are currently accepted by Amazon Pay:
Amazon Pay currently does not accept Amazon gift cards. Amazon Secure, Amazon Store, and other Amazon cards might not work.
Customers can check with Amazon Pay Customer Service to confirm that a particular payment method used is acceptable.

Amazon.com accepts American Express card at the moment. Amex (American Express), pre-paid gift cards are also available. Customers must register their Amex gift card under their own name in order to be able to use it.
Amazon will accept most debit or credit cards. At this moment, however, Amazon customers are not able to use Venmo, PayPal, or any other similar electronic payment services.

How do I use American Express Prepaid Gift Cards Online?
You can make online purchases using an American Express gift certificate just like with any other credit/debit card. Enter your name, the 15-digit card number, expiration date, and the 4-digit security code when the site prompts you to enter the payment information.
