Tineco Pure One S11 has been our best pick. It’s good, not great at all the most important things and does not have any significant flaws. It sort of wins by default, because every other cordless stick vac with a similar battery life and cleaning ability has some kind of serious downside. The S11’s best trait is how comfortable it is to handle even during long cleaning sessions (you can realistically get about 30 minutes on a fully charged battery pack), as it feels lighter and easier to steer than any of its close competitors.

In our tests, the S11 did a better job than average cleaning carpets and hard floors. Although it doesn’t pick up as much dust from rugs as others models in the same price range (including Dyson V8 Animal), it’s strong enough to recommend it, considering all of its benefits over their competitors. A machine-assisted analysis using customer reviews revealed that S11 owners have been very happy with its cleaning capabilities. Also, the S11 has an integrated dust sensor. It changes its color to indicate that it is vacuuming. S11 also automatically increases suction for large areas. The S11 can be used as a cordless vacuum. It can also use extra batteries to increase the vacuum’s run-time (though these are $90 per piece).

V15 Detect can be a very effective tool if the item is available. Dyson representatives informed us that it was out of stock and would likely not arrive until 2022. The vacuum’s outstanding cleaning power is not the only thing that makes it great. We were told by Dyson that stock was low for V15 Detect. A dust-particle counter is built into the vacuum. This feat of engineering is also a clever gimmick. Yes, the V15 does come at a high price. It can be difficult to use the trigger-style power button during prolonged sessions. We don’t believe that V15 sticks are more reliable and durable than those made by Dyson.

A slightly less expensive V11 model is also available. V11 Animal should still be available through 2021. It’s less feature-packed than the V15 but is just as amazing on rugs. The V11 Torque Drive might be available from some retailers, too; it’s like the V11 Animal, with a real-time battery-life countdown. Also, consider Dyson Outsize, which are larger, heavier, and more powerful than V11 and V15 models. They have wider brushes and bigger bins but perform the same as the V11 and V15.

Stick Vacuums: What We Do

Because stick vacuums can’t clean deep carpets as well as large-sized vacuums, CR does a carpet floor cleaning test. It evaluates whether the carpets have the ability to pick up sand or rice and how fast they do so.

Full-sized vacuums face a more challenging embedded-dirt test, in which our engineers try to clean up sand that has been ground into pile carpet.

The barefloor test with cordless stick vacuums involves the scattering of litter on tiled floors that have grout grooves. Also, we conduct an animal-hair removal test for medium-pile carpet and a clean emission test to check if the vacuum is actually releasing any of that dust.

Tineco A11 Hero

The Tineco A11 Hero is the best midrange cordless vacuum. It was the second-best performer of our test group. It has gained the Shark Rocket Pet Pro Cordless’ top spot for midrange vacuum. The Hero is a better choice with an average 72% sand pickup from midpile carpeting and an average 82.5% sand remove from low-pile flooring. A cordless stick vacuum is less costly than the Shark. It’s hard not to notice this fact.

The A11 Hero tackled pet hair without too much trouble as well. Only a small amount of material was left behind after the machine vacuumed both midpile and hardwood flooring. Our low-pile testing carpet was walked on by Hero, and some remnants of the Hero’s hair were still visible. Midpile carpeting usually causes vacuums more problems.

The design of the Hero isn’t too shabby either. Its dustbin is nearly as simple to empty as the Rocket Pet Pro. It is difficult to get the release valve on this bin into place compared to Shark’s. It is however removable. There’s also a handy trigger lock lever to keep the vacuum running without constant finger pressure.

Cordless Vacuums Tested

It’s not as difficult as trying out a robotic vacuum, but finding the best cordless cleaner takes a lot more time and effort. Each vacuum is tested on three surfaces: hardwood, carpet and carpet. On all three test beds, the test area is the same length (30.25 inches).

The vacuum’s nozzle diameter is proportional the width of your test bed. We measure this width ourselves. As per International Electrotechnical Commission guidelines we also take into consideration the nozzle diameter and the flooring type to determine the soil densities for each test. International standards body, the IEC, is responsible for overseeing vacuum testing procedures for manufacturers.

Tests were conducted on 3 types of flooring surfaces.

Three types of soil are used. Mixture of landscape sand (and play sand) is used to create small particle sizes. Uncooked rice is used to replicate larger dirt particles. To see how vacuums deal with pet hair, we use our mixture of clippings sourced to us through our local pet groomer.

We run tests in a straight line across all three floor types.

Three runs are required for each type of floor. Each floor type is also tested for suction using sand, rice and other materials. That comes to at least 18 tests per vacuum. Before and after every run, we weigh the vacuum’s dustbin.

The compact, lightweight design of this cordless vacuum makes it portable and easy to clean in corners. It feels well-built and isn’t particularly difficult to maintain. There are no recurring fees, since only the filter for dust cups needs to be changed.

You can use this vacuum on both high and low-pile floors. You will receive a turbo brush and hard-bristle brushroll for cleaning stuck-on dirt off surfaces. There is also a crevice tool to clear debris from tight corners.

The battery life of this vacuum is very short. A single charge will give you a run time of just slightly over 10 minutes. You cannot change the suction mode. You can’t change the suction power mode. This could cause allergies if your pet sheds often. The vacuum’s robust performance, portability and lightweight design make it one our favorite carpet cleaners.

This affordable cordless stick vacuum cleans high-pile carpets very well and leaves behind a significant amount of debris for low-pile flooring. The vacuum also works well on bare flooring, although bulky objects can get trapped at the dustbin’s entry. The touchscreen displays at the rear of the vacuum allows you to toggle between the different modes.

Its unique bagless design makes it easy to clean and its washable HEPA filter keeps recurring expenses down. This vacuum is made mainly of plastic and lightweight. It can also be carried around from room-to-room or in tight spots. The vacuum can also be reconfigured to work as a handheld cleaner for smaller jobs. Depending on your choice of suction power mode and attachments, it supplies roughly 10 minutes to an hour of total runtime, though this can vary slightly in the real world.

Some parts, such as the primary floorhead or clear plastic dustbin, can feel fragile. It was capable of picking up even the smallest amount of cat litter, flour, ground coffee, or dog hair on both hardwood and tile. The vacuum had difficulty moving around on high-pile carpets.

The grip is thick and the dust bin heavy make it uncomfortable for prolonged cleaning sessions. The slight discomfort is offset by several features. Near the grip are separate settings that can be used for both hardwood and carpet. They’re also easy to move between. A power boost trigger can be held down to increase suction power.

It feels much better to roll the cleaning brush around tiles and hardwood than rough and hard. It also has two useful features. A light will show you exactly what is being cleaned and highlight any small particles that might have been missed. A green alarm button that turns red when there’s a blockage is activated so you can get to work immediately.

My favorite part of using the vacuum is how low and flat it can get. Cordless vacuums can’t move or rearrange the stick, so you must bend to get under furniture. The Shark has a great design where you click a button in the middle of the stick, and it bends into a flexible hose “elbow,” allowing the entire bottom half of the shaft to lay flat and get under beds, couches, chairs, and other tricky spots. Instead of having to bend my knees and waist, I could just drop my arm so that I could continue cleaning without too much disruption.
